This case was tried to a Dekalb County, Ga jury – a notoriously plaintiff’s friendly venue. In this case, HLP client admitted that it was at fault for the car accident but disputed the degree of resulting personal injury.
Total asserted medicals were approximately $163,000. Plaintiff asked the jury to enter a verdict that was 3 to 5 times the medical expenses ($489,000.00 to $815,000). The jury rejected Plaintiff’s suggestion and entered a total verdict of $225,000 or 1.4 times the asserted medical expenses. The jury’s verdict was significantly lower than the last settlement offer made by our client to avoid a trial.
